How Long Does a CEREC Crown Last?

Is It Worth The Extra Bucks?

With the new technological advances of a CEREC crown, the cosmetic dental industry has the ability to remove the need for unnecessary steps with dental crowns. CEREC crowns are created in typically one-hour, in office and in one appointment for the patient, completely eliminating the need for a middleman (a dental lab).

The way these CEREC crowns are made are quite modern. The dentist will take digital photographs of the inside of your mouth, using the CEREC CAD/CAM technology. These 3D images are all it takes to create the perfect dental crown for you. This version eliminates the need for putty impressions to be taken (which are quite uncomfortable). Many patients prefer this route because not only is it a cleaner way to take the imagery needed for the crown, but it also removes the possibility of errors. If an error does occur, it is extremely easy to correct because all it takes is a few more photos to be taken and a new CEREC crown is created within an hour. In the traditional route, this error would have to be corrected by taking uncomfortable putty impressions again and sent back to the lab as the patient and the dentist would have to wait another week or so for the new restoration to be in hand.

How Long do CEREC Dental Crowns Last?

Although these CEREC crown restorations are extremely quick, convenient, and comfortable, you may be wondering just how long do they last? For many reasons, CEREC crowns do last many years. Because the quality of the crown is so pristine, the dental crowns last quite a few years.

Depending on how well the patient takes care of their crowns, no matter the material can result in how long the dental crown can last. It is recommended to brush your teeth twice a day and floss at least once a day to ensure infections don’t occur and decay doesn’t spread. Be sure to visit your dentist twice a year for a proper dental cleaning along with an in-depth checkup to ensure there are no abnormalities arising at any moment.
