Typical Costs of Dental Implants

Taking care of our smiles should be at the top of our to-do list. When it comes to replacing missing teeth or extracted teeth, many patients shy away from the idea because of the potentially high costs.

Dental implants are the #1 recommended treatment option for replacing missing teeth. This tooth replacement option consists of a titanium post that gets inserted surgically in the patient's jaw bone to mimic a tooth root. An abutment is added to the post that will act as the foundation for the tooth restoration. A dental crown, dental bridge, or even dentures can be attached to this abutment to finalize the dental implant procedure. While this procedure is a fairly complicated one, the cost associated with it is an investment for a stunning smile!

Each tooth restoration is customized and tailored to each patient's exact needs. An impression (either digital or molded) is taken and sent to a dental lab where the restoration will be custom-made for your mouth. The use of porcelain (a stronger and more attractive material) is recommended for use for all dental restorations. While this material may be more expensive, it will last much longer than any other materials. Plus, it is the only material that mimics a tooth’s natural coloring and strength.

The Cost Associated With Dental Implants

First off, every patient should know that not every dental implant procedure is exactly alike. The treatment will always be tailored to each patient's exact needs for their issues. This means that the overall cost of each dental implant procedure can vary, specifically on the type of treatments needed. In addition, the price may be lower or higher based on the location, education, and experience of your chosen dentist.

There are other tooth replacement options that may cost a patient only a fraction of what a dental implant would cost. That being said, these other options won't last the patient nearly as long as a dental implant would, therefore the patient would be shelling out more money down the road to replace the cheap restoration. A dental implant is known to last a patient upwards of 25 years or longer (depending on how well the restoration is cared for).

The entire cost of a single tooth dental implant replacement is estimated to be between $3000-$4500. Again, while this seems like a large financial investment, the price will depend on the facts listed above. In addition to this cost, the patient must be ready and willing to ask the right questions when figuring out costs. Such as; If an extraction is needed, is it included in the cost? Is tissue treatment included? How do the materials of the tooth restoration affect the price? What are my sedation options?

In addition to the dental implant specifics, be sure to find the right dentist for you and your wallet. This doesn't necessarily suggest that you should find the cheapest option and run with it as you could be compromising quality with this thought! Be sure to look for a dentist who has done dozens, if not hundreds, of dental implant procedures to ensure yours is performed with quality. Remember if you are spending a little more than you originally wanted, it is an investment in YOUR smile. Why skimp on the cost when you should get the quality you deserve?
