Millions of Americans take their smile into their own hands by stepping into the world of cosmetic dentistry. There are many ways a patient can re-vamp his or her smile when it comes to cosmetic dentistry. One of the most popular ways a patient regains his or her smile back is by opting for a makeover with porcelain veneers. However, tons of patients may shy away from this procedure as many people are worried about porcelain veneer costs.

How Much Do Porcelain Veneers Cost?

There are many factors that come into play when it comes to the overall cost of veneers. In most cases, dental veneers are charged per tooth, and can vary between $250-$2,500 per tooth. We know you may be thinking that is a huge price difference, and you’re right, however there are many factors that contribute to these prices.

The Material

The material of the veneer makes a huge impact on the price. A patient, with dentist recommendation, can choose between a composite, porcelain or an ultra-thin material. Porcelain veneers are the more pricier option among these materials because it is the most durable and mimics the look of natural teeth better.

  1. Composite Veneers: This is a great option for those patients who are looking to spend the minimal cost for veneers. Typically, this material can cost anywhere from $250-$1,500 per tooth, which seem like a lot, but at any given moment, they are still almost always half the price of porcelain veneers. Composite veneers are a low-cost option simply because they can be created in the dentist’s office and requires one appointment, so the patients skip out on the lab fees.
  2. Porcelain Veneers: This is the recommended option among dental professionals. Porcelain veneers are much stronger than composite veneers as they are as strong as natural teeth. These veneers can cost between $500-$2500 per tooth, depending on your dental office. The reason the costs are higher here is because the veneers are custom crafted at a dental lab and bonded to your teeth at a second appointment.
  3. Lumineer Veneers (ultra-thin): These veneers cost from $800-$2500 per tooth. They are essentially porcelain veneers, except created much thinner than the usual ones but last just as long. These require minimal contouring of your natural tooth.

The Location

The location of the teeth make a big difference on the pricing of the veneers as well. If you’re looking to have six to eight of front teeth done for optimal cosmetics, the pricing of the veneers will be 6-8 times the actual amount of each tooth. If you’re looking to only have a few teeth repaired with veneers, your dentist will likely tell you that there will be an inconsistency with the overall look of your teeth if the veneers are sporadically placed in your mouth. It’s recommended to have all front teeth done for a better and more consistence looking smile.

The Dentist

Of course, the price of your porcelain veneers might boil down to the dentist you have chosen. The location of the dental practice can have an impact on your costs as well as the demand of the dentist, his or her education level, his or her level in career (in years), and so on. Be sure to talk to your dental insurance about your options and narrow down your search by having a consultation with potential dental professionals.
