Can Numbness Be Reversed?

What is new at Renaissance Dental Center? I am glad you asked!!!

Can numbness be reversed?

OraVerse2

By now, numbness is something most of us are used to at the dental office after an injection of local anesthetic. However, we now have a proven way that may speed up the return of sensation in the soft tissues of the mouth after routine care.

The problem…

Numbness can be limiting, affecting your speech, your smile, and your ability to eat and drink. You may even catch yourself drooling!

The solution…

Oraverse is a breakthrough that reverses unwanted lingering numbness after routine dental procedures where local anesthetic containing a vasoconstrictor was used. In clinical trials, the patients were able to regain normal sensation twice as fast vs the control group.

The doctors at Renaissance Dental Center can administer OraVerse in the same way the local anesthetic was given so that you can return to normal sensation and function faster.

If you would like to have OraVerse as part of your next visit, simply ask us for more details!

Do you suffer from canker sores/aphthous ulcers or cold sores/herpetic lesions?

No need to suffer any longer!!!

Commonly known as canker sores, aphthous ulcers affect close to 10% of the population. The exact cause is unknown, but possible factors include: citrus fruits, trauma, stress, lack of sleep, immune system reactions, and deficiency in B12, Iron, or Folic Acid.

These ulcers tend to be extremely tender to palpation, and use of a toothpaste containing Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) can trigger attacks in some of these patients.

In the past, dentists have used topical agents that can chemically cauterize, or topical steroid agents that can aid in reducing inflammation. Recently, several studies show using lasers at non ablative settings can help with both a reduction in pain, and provide a quicker healing compared to any of the topical agents. In fact, the result from one study revealed that 75% of the patients reported a reduction in pain in the same session after laser treatment! In addition to laser therapy, we also recommend OxyFresh products that are SLS free and have also been very helpful in reducing the recurrence of aphthous ulcers (canker sores).

Recurrent Herpetic Simplex Lesions

Oral herpes are characterized by visible symptoms called fever blisters or cold sores, and although most people are exposed to this virus in childhood, a smaller percentage of people suffer from the recurrent form of the disease. The lesions typically break out in the “non-movable” parts of the mouth including gums, lips and hard palate. Often patients will feel itching or tingling in a prodromal stage one or two days before the outbreak of the vesicular lesions. The lesions crust over and heal over a period of 10-14 days.

Typically dentists have used anti-viral drugs and ointments to help speed up the healing of lesions, but have found that it can still take anywhere from 4-7 days to heal. With the laser treatment, studies are now finding that 100% of the prodromal (tingling) stages, 95% of the vesicular (bubble) ones and 91% of the crust (scab) stages were able to cure during the first 48 hours!

If you or someone you know suffers from these types of sores, please give our office a call for more details!
