More About Knightdale, North Carolina

The third time is a charm when it comes to naming this community. That is the one historical nugget about Knightsdale, North Carolina. Even though the region has a deep and rich history this community was incorporated rather late.

The History

In the year 1700 a young man by the name of John Lawson explored and plotted the region. After trekking close to 1,000 miles he negotiated a peaceful exchange with the fierce Tuscarora Indians on the banks of the Nuese River at about the spot in which Knightsdale is located today. The King of England received Lawson’s report and decided to give away land to willing settlers. Around 1730 a John Hinton
left his home and headed further west building what will become the first dwelling in Knightsdale. More settlers joined Hinton in relocating to the area and he was instructed by the colonial government to organize a local militia. The group saw no real action until the American Revolutionary war. In 1776 Hinton led his group against the English in a battle called Moore’s Creek Bridge. Hinton was asked to serve as a delegate to the Fourth Provincial Congress and the Congress passed a resolution called the Halifax Resolve. This document was the  blueprint for the Declaration of Independence as we know it today.

Modern Times

After independence the area saw more crops of tobacco and cotton and more local farmers. The area made it through the challenging Civil War seeing quite a bit of troop traffic. At the end of the 1800s a Henry Knight donated large plots of his land to encourage the railroad to the area. The railroad finally came through in 1904 and the community was then finally incorporated as Knightsville in 1910.

Geography and Amenities

In current times this small city of 15,000 residents finds being a literal suburb of Raleigh quite beneficial. There are many benefits to the immediate region. In 1959 a Research Triangle Park was created between Raleigh and Durham. This park is 30 minutes from Knightsville and now has more than 200 corporate offices employing a well performing work force. The entire region, with now has around 1.8 million residents calling the area home, is the fastest growing metro area in the United States.

Knightsdale saw better than average growth in regards to the region. On one side you can go home to the peace, quiet and safety of your tree lined residential streets with kids plays in the neighborhoods to the other side; terrific high tech employment opportunities in the Triangle to all the amenities of the Raleigh Durham cosmopolitan cities. You’ll find many sources of entertainment as well as menus that
cover all ethnic cuisines. Three major universities contribute to the cutting edge lifestyles as well as acknowledging the beauty of the region’s historical past. The one additional advantage about Knightsville, North Carolina is the proximity to the great outdoors. A two hour drive to the east and you can relas on the Atlantic beaches, or a two hour drive to the west and you can hike in the Appalachian Mountains. Knightsville, a very pleasant surprise!
