What is Judy’s Bubbles?

Dr. Abernethy’s mother lost her fight to cancer a few months ago. Dr. A has started a foundation called “Judy’s Bubbles” and we want to thank all who have and who will support this mission!

Please read this message from Dr. A when you have a moment:

“If anyone remotely knew my mom, Judy, you would have immediately seen her light, a true love of teaching children, and the uncanny ability to spread laughter and joy to everyone around her. Even while undergoing chemotherapy treatments, she would go in with gusto!! By themeing each chemo treatment (“Nemo Chemo” is an example) she would charge into the hospital fully equipped with goggles, bubbles, “Under the Sea” music and goldfish crackers! Regardless of how she was feeling, Judy was determined to continue to put smiles on all of the doctors, hospital team, and other patients around her!”

I felt called to continue her legacy of spreading joy! And when I found this excerpt from Jesus Calling two days after she went to heaven, I knew it would be the vision statement for this foundation.

“Sit quietly with me, letting all your fears and worries bubble up to the surface of your consciousness. There, in the Light of My Presence, the bubbles pop and disappear.”

Judy’s Bubbles is a foundation to help spread love, light, joy AND BUBBLES to children at UNC Children’s Hospital. It will also help to support its school, where many of the patients and their siblings attend while undergoing treatments. As this foundation grows, we plan to contribute to other hospitals in North Carolina, and eventually nationwide.
