The park was originated in 1959 and has some terrific statistics that now describe the area and rank it as one of the top regions to both live and work in in the country. Cary has grown with the park. Now with over 160,000 residents, is has been named the hottest town in the East and one of the six hottest towns in the country by Money Magazine. The geography compliments the accolades with many rolling hills and a large lake to boot.

The Triangle

Within 20 minutes you can find the college campuses of Duke, North Carolina State and the University of North Carolina. With the focus on business and technology over the years it’s of no surprise that 97% of the residents have access to the Internet. Over 66% hold college degrees creating a “smart” environment and a community with a very high household median income. To make it even better the beautiful abundance of tree lined street are very safe and secure with a very, very low crime rate. Cary is ranked as one of the top 20 safest cities in the entire country and the safest in the southeast.

History

Even with the huge laundry list of awards, Cary does have some history prior to the mid 1900’s. It started as a township back in 1750. One hundred years later the railroad came through and made it part of a major transportation route. In 1854 Frank Page and his wife bought 300 acres around the railroad junction and named the development Cary laying out streets, building a saw mill, a general store and a post office. A hotel was built in 1868 to serve the railroad passengers. The town was incorporated in 1871 and Page became the first mayor.

Resources

Cary has an abundance of resources. Outside of the education, the business opportunities, the history of the area and two terrific major cities so close in Raleigh and Durham, it also has a vibrant downtown district and many, many recreational opportunities. The downtown is not lacking for retail adventures as well as local dining venues. Again, anywhere in the Triangle you can find any big box retailer. The city has done a terrific job with their parks and recreation departments expanding green spaces to keep up with the population boom. More than 70 miles of trails and greenspace, ball diamonds in over 30 parks, theaters; there is something for all ages and all interests. Of course, one thing about Cary, NC, is the fact that you are in the Piedmont and can easily drive east to the Atlantic or turn and head west to the Appalachian Mountains and the endless activities available at either. Cary, the strength of the triangle!
